Out of State Adoption Process

If you're an out of state adopter the process will be similar but of course some differences due to distance. We try to give as much info as we can on Pet Finder and post pictures and videos. Please note we can probably only do 1 to 2 videos as the fosters "foster" voluntarily and have full lives. We ask that you fill out the application first so we can get to know more about you and if you're a good candidate for one of our animals. ( All info given stays safe & is strictly used for the process of adoptions ).

We will have to schedule  an online video chat interview  preferably skype so we can get a tour of your home as well as we will google map it.  Fee is a flat $500 this covers, kennel, transport and health certificate. We use United Airlines for our air transport

We have also been vetting land transportation organizations as well.  The pricing is in the $300 to $400 range (includes adoption fee).  These organizations go up the East Coast and the West Coast with predetermined stops/drop off locations.  Land transport is less expensive but unlike flying, the animal arrives according to the transport’s schedule.  Most land transport groups do their routes only once or twice a month. So always feel free to ask if there's land transport for your area.

Once  application and video chat interview approved we can start scheduling everything.

We know that you're taking a chance adopting out of state and not being able to meet the animal so we will do our best to accommodate with any info, pictures and video that can be acquired. We will make you known of any possible concerns so you better decide if this animal is for you. We hope to place the many homeless animals of Houston Tx area into loving homes no matter where they maybe.

Please know adopting out of state is new to us so we might have some hiccups with our new process in place but we're going to do our best to give you all the honest information we can especially about travel and fees.

PLEASE NOTE OUR FULL APPLICATION PROCESS CAN TAKE A WEEK OR SO WE DO TRY OUR BEST TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESS AS FAST AS POSSIBLE BUT WE DO HAVE FAMILIES & JOBS ETC.

Please understand while our application seems excessive, it is to ensure the safety of our animals, the best match possible and that they are not given up on again.  We put a lot of time and effort into vetting them, teaching them basic manners and socialization.  We do not charge for any illness or injuries we have had to treat or for behavior modification, needed for some provided by a professional.  We do all of this in order for each of them to be ready for their forever homes.  We want them to be happy and loved as well as make the best match for you and your family.

If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us.

Normal response time is within 24 to 36 hours

Adoption Process

You are welcome to come by any of our adoption events and meet some of our rescues.  Click on the "Events" tab on our website to find out where we will be next.  We cannot assure that all animals will be at each event.  Feel free to contact us prior to the event to see if a particular rescue will be attending.  We will do everything we can to have them at the event if possible.  If you decide you like the animal, you can apply for adoption at the event.  We will review and let you know if we have anymore questions as well as the adoption status within 24 to 36 hours at the most.  No animal ever leaves directly from the event.

If for some reason, the foster or you cannot make it to an event or you do not wish to wait until the event we can arrange a SCHEDULED MEET & GREET

but an application and home check will need to be done in advance.

REASONS why we require an approved adoption application & home check before committing to a "SCHEDULED MEET & GREET" or SLEEPOVER :

1. To learn about you, your family and your home to ensure the animal selected would be a potential match. For the volunteers to take time out of their busy lives to drive to you we want to make sure your an approved adopter as not to waste anyone's valuable time and so no one gets prematurely attached.

2. To learn and get to know enough about you and your family for our fosters and volunteers protection. As we are sending them out to you we want to ensure their safety knowing about where and who they are going to meet.

SCHEDULED MEET & GREETS  allow you and your family to interact with our rescue animal in your home.

At the conclusion of the SCHEDULED MEET & GREET if everything  goes well  we can proceed with a sleepover/trial period.  A Sleepover is a trial period usually 7 to 10 days to see if the animal is a good fit and will work with your day-to-day life style.  We will have you sign a Visitation Contract for the sleepover. Volunteer will come prepared with the animals supplies in case a sleep over does happen.

The Rescue maintains ownership of the rescue animal at all times during the sleepover. We will provide supplies that must be returned to the rescue at the end of the trial period whether you adopt or not.  Supplies generally are a crate/kennel, collar, harness, leash, food, bedding and favorite toys.

If you decide to adopt there is an Adoption Contract and Adoption Fee.  Dogs are $175 and Cats are $125.  This covers vaccinations including rabies, spay/neuter and microchip.

We do not charge for any additional expenses we incurred for treating any illnesses or injuries our animals may have had to get them ready for adoption.

PLEASE NOTE OUR FULL APPLICATION PROCESS CAN TAKE A WEEK OR SO WE DO TRY OUR BEST TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESS AS FAST AS POSSIBLE BUT WE DO HAVE FAMILIES & JOBS ETC.

LPRR is a serious rescue devoted to placing our animals in forever homes.  We want them to have the best chance of never being dumped, neglected or abused again.  We put a lot of time rehabilitating their behaviors, getting them healthy and ready for your home.  We want adoptions to work out for everyone involved.

If for any reason, in the entire life of your pet whether it is 2 months or 10 yrs, your situation changes and the rescue animal can no longer be homed with you and your family, just contact us.  We will gladly take them in and look for another suitable home.  Life happens and while we hope all the animals we place stay in their forever homes forever we will certainly understand
